Our Heritage
Three Generations. One Fibre. One Family.
Some brands discover wool.
We were born into it.
Our family's connection to the Australian wool industry began in the early 1930s with Frank Scanlan, whose pioneering work in wool scouring helped shape Western Australia's wool industry. In an era when Australian wool was becoming renowned around the world, Frank travelled internationally with suitcases filled with wool samples, introducing buyers to the exceptional quality of Australian Merino and building relationships that would endure for generations.
His passion for wool became the foundation of our family's story.
In 1986, his son, Peter Scanlan, continued that legacy by founding Scanlan Wools. Working closely with Western Australian woolgrowers, Peter dedicated his career to sourcing, buying and marketing some of Australia's finest Merino wool, earning a reputation built on trust, integrity and an uncompromising eye for quality.
After decades spent understanding wool from the inside out, creating Swoolly felt like the natural next chapter.
Rather than simply supplying the world's finest fibre, we wanted to create garments that honoured it—pieces that celebrated the remarkable qualities of Australian Merino while connecting people with the growers, landscapes and heritage behind every fleece.
Today, every Swoolly garment begins long before it's worn. It begins on Western Australian farms, where generations of wool-growing knowledge meet nearly a century of our family's experience in the wool industry.
Every decision we make is guided by a simple belief: exceptional garments begin with exceptional fibre.
Our Philosophy
We believe in creating fewer, better garments.
Pieces crafted from natural fibres.
Designed to be worn often.
Made to last.
Created with respect for the people who grow the wool, the land that produces it and the generations of knowledge that make it possible.
At a time when Australian wool production is under increasing pressure, choosing Australian Merino is about more than what you wear. It's about supporting local woolgrowers, regional communities and one of the world's most remarkable natural fibres.
For us, luxury isn't defined by excess.
It's defined by authenticity.
By craftsmanship.
By timeless design.
And by knowing exactly where every garment begins.
Nearly a century ago, our family carried Australian wool to the world.
Today, we're proud to bring that same heritage home again—creating timeless Merino garments that honour the growers, the land and the remarkable fibre that has shaped our family's story for generations.
This is more than clothing.
It's our heritage, woven into every fibre.
